Client Challenge: Predicting Real-World Reactions to Unreleased Compliance Messaging

A global pharmaceutical company was preparing to launch a new treatment for a chronic condition across multiple European markets. As part of the regulatory process, they were required to provide clear, patient-facing compliance materials—brochures, digital leaflets, and consent forms—that explained dosage instructions, side effects, and follow-up requirements in layperson’s terms.

However, the client faced a dilemma common in early-stage communication testing:

  • The final materials were not yet approved for public distribution
  • Real-world patients in their target countries couldn’t legally or ethically be exposed to unapproved content
  • Time constraints made traditional qualitative focus groups or live pre-tests infeasible

The company needed rapid, evidence-based feedback to refine messaging before launch—without breaching compliance regulations or waiting weeks for traditional recruitment and fieldwork.

That’s where DataDiggers, powered by its synthetic research suite—Syntheo and Modeliq—stepped in.

Our Solution: Synthetic Persona Simulation with Syntheo & Modeliq

To overcome regulatory and timeline constraints, DataDiggers proposed a hybrid synthetic simulation approach that leveraged:

  • Syntheo: Our AI-powered platform that creates realistic digital personas modeled on deep profiling data from real patients across multiple European geographies
  • Modeliq: Our scenario simulation engine, designed to forecast behavioral responses based on different content variants using synthetic insights grounded in real-world data logic

Step 1: Building the Right Synthetic Patient Cohorts

Using Syntheo, we developed highly detailed synthetic personas representing the client’s target patient profiles:

  • Adults aged 55–75 with chronic health conditions (e.g., Type 2 diabetes, hypertension)
  • Located in Germany, France, and Italy
  • Varying in health literacy, medication adherence levels, and digital vs. paper communication preferences
  • Modeled using inputs from 1st- and 3rd-party healthcare data and enriched by DataDiggers’ proprietary panels (MyVoice)

Each persona mirrored the behavioral patterns, decision-making tendencies, and comprehension barriers commonly seen in actual patients—without any exposure to real respondents or PHI (Protected Health Information).

Step 2: Simulating Reactions to Messaging Scenarios

Modeliq was then used to run simulation tests on the early versions of the compliance materials. We modeled:

  • Likelihood of comprehension based on tone, complexity, and visual design
  • Perceived trustworthiness of the communication style (official vs. friendly tone)
  • Projected action rates, such as whether patients would follow up with their physician or take medication as instructed

Three material variants were tested, each with slightly different wording and layout.

Key Results & Insights Delivered

Using synthetic data models, the client was able to:

Identify the most effective wording and visual combination before real-world testing
Refine the tone of voice for more empathetic, comprehension-friendly communication
Save weeks of traditional testing timelines
✅ Avoid any compliance breach by keeping all simulations in a synthetic sandbox

Why It Worked: The Power of High-Integrity Synthetic Simulation

This simulation was only possible thanks to DataDiggers' layered technology stack:

  • Syntheo’s AI personas weren’t just based on guesswork—they were constructed using deep, real-world panel data, continuously updated and validated
  • Modeliq ran thousands of scenario permutations in hours, not weeks, generating statistically grounded behavioral forecasts
  • Correlix, our bias-correction engine, was used in the background to ensure simulated responses reflected population-level diversity and eliminated algorithmic skew

Critically, the entire project followed GDPR and ISO 20252:2019 compliance standards, reinforcing both ethical research practices and credible outcomes.

Client Impact: Confident Messaging, Regulatory Peace of Mind

The pharmaceutical company finalized its compliance materials using Variant B—confident in its projected performance across key patient groups. The simulation also empowered their regulatory affairs team to present evidence-backed rationale for their communication strategy to health authorities.

“DataDiggers gave us the clarity we needed when it mattered most—without breaking timelines or rules. Their synthetic approach turned a legal and logistical hurdle into a strategic advantage.”
— VP, Global Patient Communications, Pharmaceutical Client

Conclusion: Simulating Without Compromising

In today’s complex regulatory and ethical environment—especially in healthcare—synthetic simulations are not a luxury, but a necessity. When traditional research isn’t possible, DataDiggers enables decision-makers to test early, iterate fast, and stay compliant with zero compromise on insight quality.

Through Syntheo, Modeliq, and Correlix, we deliver simulation-grade precision—from synthetic patients to real-world decisions.
